Brief downtime Sunday evening

The site was unavailable for roughly 45 minutes this evening due to an issue at our data center. While absolutely no files were lost during this time, some of your files may be unavailable for the next hour or so as we work on getting all servers back online. We’ll update this post as soon as there’s more information.

Update 9:30 pm EST:  And we’re back. Please contact us (support@divshare.com) if you experience any problems from here on out and we’ll look into them immediately. We apologize for any inconvenience, and are working to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.

Important Security Announcement

Dear DivShare members,

Late last night we were alerted of a security breach that allowed a malicious user to access our database, which included user e-mail addresses and other basic profile information. No financial information has been accessed by any unauthorized parties. We have taken extreme measures to secure the site in the last 12 hours and are currently in the process of rolling out new security precautions, which is why many files are currently unavailable. We apologize for this inconvenience and for the oversights that allowed this security breach to take place. We take the security of all data and files very seriously and are embarrassed and regretful that an intrusion was allowed to take place on our watch.

Please rest assured that no financial information whatsoever has been compromised. While we are not aware of what data has actually been accessed or copied, the database included user e-mail addresses and other data you may have saved to your profile, such as your first name. We are not aware of any files being accessed without permission, but we recommend that you change your account password and the passwords on any private folders as a security precaution.

We can’t apologize enough for allowing this breach to take place. We know how important security is for all our members and their files, and we are taking every precaution available to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. We ask for your patience as we bring all your files back online under the new security system in the coming hours, and we pledge to keep your files and user information under the tightest security possible from here on out.

The site will be offline for a few minutes during the 5 p.m. ET hour as we do some maintenance on one of our database servers. We are expecting no more than 30 minutes of downtime, and perhaps significantly less. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for being a part of DivShare.

s06 server is temporarily unavailable

We’ve had to take the s06 server (which may also appear as s04.divshare.com when accessing files) offline temporarily to resolve a network connection issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and will have the server online again as soon as possible.

Downtime on s14 this morning

We experienced several hours of downtime on s14.divshare.com due to a software crash this morning, and we’ve just brought that server back online. All files are accessible again, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Downtime on s08 due to power supply failure

Update: This server is now back online. We apologize for the extended downtime.

Update: Sorry for the extended downtime on this server. We are waiting for the completion of some more hardware replacements, and will have these files back online as soon as possible.

We had a problem with the power supply in our s08.divshare.com server overnight, causing several hours of downtime through the morning. Our staff at the datacenter has replaced the faulty hardware, and no data has been lost. The server should be back online in the next hour. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Today’s outage is now resolved

Update, 5:30 ET: We’re very sorry for today’s downtime, which was caused by a scripting error that overloaded one of our database servers. We’ve fixed it now and have taken measures to prevent that this sort of error, which should have had relatively little effect on the site’s performance, does not cause such a long period of downtime ever again. Sorry again for the inconvenience, and let us know if you run into any further issues today.

Update, 3:44 ET: We’re very sorry for the continued issues. We’ve now brought all our database servers back into sync, and we expect the site to be running smoothly again in the next few minutes. Please let us know if you continue to have problems accessing any part of the site.

Update: The slowness / downtime is being caused by a problem with one of our database servers, and our staff is working on repairing that server now. In the meantime, we’ll keep the database offline so as not to cause further site timeouts.

We are experiencing a network outage, and our staff at the datacenter is working to pinpoint and resolve the problem now. We apologize for this inconvenience and will have more updates as soon as possible.
